My blog title is quantitative finance and more. Today's post is about the more part.
I am so happy to meet so many wonderful people in finance industry recently. Here is one question I met during my interview.
What is your favorite band?
Wow!!! I love so many bands. I am the kind of person likes driving around in the desert with friends with loud music on then sing along the music. "Wait. This is my favorite!!!" "You cannot have so many favorites. Favorite is the only one." Yes. I am a person with many favorite songs, singers and movies.
I was born in a small town in China. 15-20 years ago, few foreign musicians were known in China, not to mention people living in a small town. But there was a music magazine called music heaven, which had a deep impact on me.
Be honest, I started to listen to Sia, when she was still considered to be an independent singer in Australia, when she had her face uncovered. Then start to listen to various british bands, such as Snow Patrol, Keane, Coldplay, Oasis, Travis, U2, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Muse... Then start to get to know Leonard Cohen, Joni Michelle, Tori Amos, Janis Joplin... Some people think I am lying. One of my friends said Tori Amos started to sing when I was still a baby. Then start to know garage/underground music, then start to addicted to some weird feminism alternative singers - Fiona Apple, Julianna Hatfield, Liz Phair, PJ Harvey and the young generation Kate Nash...
And also my favorite Sparklehorse.
I like the story, truth and honesty lying between their vocal and lyrics. I respect their courage to do their music on their own and their own opinions regarding what music/life is.
Finally, Viva La Indie/alternative/post-*** whatever people try to call them.
